Virtue or virtuous, is a powerful word; one not thrown around as frivolously as pretty, beautiful, hot or any of the hundreds of words used to describe women. It is a word that holds power and prestige, beyond any other adjective describing women and debasing their worth to nothing more than the symmetry of their face and body. The expression "virtuous woman" in Hebrew Language, "Ishshah chavil" means "one who reflects power from within".
The virtuous woman is not defined by looks alone. People who have a beautiful exterior can begin to loom ugly after you get to know them while someone with a somewhat average face beauty can become the most beautiful person you know. This proves that beauty is not just a facade but an iridescent quality that is not solely dependent on ones's gene pool.
In our modern world, beauty is well-defined with the virtues lacking; but according to saint Thomas Aquinas, the three characteristics of beauty are; radiance, harmony, and wholeness. Beautiful things shine and their radiance can be seen externally. For beauty to be complete and whole, outward beauty must harmonize with inward beauty. These two must co-exist as the inward beauty is brought about by virtues, the sole reason for that sweet savoir of a woman.
In concordance with the scriptures, Proverb 31:10-31, there is nothing mentioned about the virtuous woman's physical beauty or feminine charms, rather it is to be noted that her hands, heart and tongue are described as excellent. Though, she may not be beautiful outwardly, intense beauty radiates through her pure heart, rough hands and safe tongue.
The virtuous woman is fully aware that true beauty lies within and develops out of good Character. Good character manifests behavior and attitude that exhibit high moral standards. She acknowledges that it comes from the way she talks, walks and presents herself. She has the knowledge that it is the following qualities that make her radiate from the intside out:
CONFIDENCE: The virtuous woman presents this mysterious quality that attracts people more than outlandish gestures and cries for attention. She has that belief in herself and her ability to do things, achieve and maintain whatever goals and standards she set for herself in life and be successful. This quality exhibits her independence as she freely does things, without needing help from others.
COMPASSIONATE, SELFLESS AND CARING: The virtuous woman is down to earth and sensitive to the needs of others.
The virtuous woman is fully aware that true beauty lies within and develops out of good character. Good character manifests behavior and attitudes that exhibit high moral standards. She acknowledges that it comes from the way she walks, talks and presents herself. She has the knowledge that it is the following qualities that makes her radiate from the outside out
She acts in service to others and thinks highly of the needs of others without neglecting hers. These attributes are due to her desire to leave he'd mark on people's lives in some positive e way that would help them throughout their lives.
INTELLIGENCE: A virtuous woman knows how to speak her mind intelligently. She can captivate you with her words and opinions and prove that there is nothing more beautiful than intelligence. He high I.Q. shows that she can use her mouth justifiably. She knows how to talk as there is nothing worse than a woman who doesn't know how to use her mouth. She exhibits brilliance, while maintaining a good sense of humour.
INTEGRITY AND DISCIPLINE: These cover her very strong moral principles. Firstly, she has respect for her body. She does her best to stay healthy. She maintains a good balanced diet to improve the total wellbeing of her body. Also, she is chaste and pure. She does not indulge in frivolous pleasures, knowing fully well that her body is the temple of God. Secondly, she has is honest, trustworthy, patient, hard-working and charitable. She has her self-respect, self-discipline and self-dignity embedded in her, right into marrow of her bones.
RECEPTIVENESS: A virtuous woman shows her real self, being fully aware her flaws and imperfections. She also knows that women tend to be very emotional beings and that the downside of emotion is that it can often blind and cripple reasoning. A virtuous woman accepts her demotions but uses reason to temper her actions. Being receptive here means, that she is always willing to listen to and accept advice, rebuke and critique. She does not stubbornly stick to her opinion regardless of whether they be right or wrong.
Above all, if these qualities are present in a woman and she does not have a heart that fears God, she is not whole. Finally, a virtuous woman is one that glows not just because of tinted moisturizers or glossy hair and flashy dressing but because of that something inside her-her soul, her spark and the one thing, you cannot put your finger on. She has got that thing, it is that thing you just cannot place, it cannot be put into words let alone describe.
So wonderful are the characteristics of this woman that fellow females despair of ever being able to attain her standards, whilst the males live in hope that they find a being who comes somewhere close to the character described. So, wherever you come across such a woman, call her blessed but you can also called blessed starting today, if not divine.
